Description of Organization

Kapallorek is an independent art space formed in 2014. Founded by Fadly Sabran and based in Seri Iskandar, Perak, Malaysia. It operates as a non-profit organization that serves alternative platform for New Media Artist, Inter-Disciplinary Arts, Experimental Artists, Residency Artist & Art Researcher. This is done by having exhibition, workshop, performances art, dialogue & sharing sessions regarding their creative practice with the local communities. Kapallorek also strive to have collaborative exchange with regional and international art practitioners and arts spaces.

AiR Programme

Hosted by Kapallorek Artspace, this is a recent residency programme aimed at growing the connection and collaboration between Malaysian and International contemporary artists. This programme is held at Seri Iskandar, Perak, Malaysia where we offer residencies with the goal of providing space for research, reflection, experiment and exchange.

The objective is to provide opportunities for resident artists to exchange ideas with their international counterparts and establish networking with local artists and other parties in the contemporary art scene. In the meantime,  the artist can explore the uniqueness of our local context, gaining an overview of hundred years of human interaction with the natural and cultural value. Local site study of historical, tradition, cosmology, archaeology, agriculture and multiculturalism.

Disciplines

Contemporary Artist working with Experimental approach, multi-disciplinary, New Media exploration & Interactive work or Public Art &  Community engagement.

Duration of residency

One month residency:  1 – 30 January 2024

What is provided:

  • Accommodation
  • Studio/workspace with basic art material
  • Allowance of RM1000 (One Thousand Malaysian Ringgit)
  • Supporting programs that will allow resident artists to have better exposure and communication with the local community.

What is NOT provided:

  • Meals or groceries.
  • Flight tickets.
  • Any other local transport costs.
  • Travel visas, and any fees for procuring and maintaining travel visas. (if stay more than one month)

Expectations towards the artist

  • Artist are expected to have an original position in the field they are working in and expected have good experience of independent practice.
  • Resident artist are expected to participate in any schedule of Open Studio Day / Sharing Session. The artist have to be on site and available to share in discussions about their art with visitors.
  • Artists are expected to leave 1 artwork that has been made at Kapallorek Artspace for our permanent collection.
