FOUND FOSSIL BY ZULKEFLI JAIS

Cleaning an empty field, lying down inside the gallery, creating an invisible sculpture, explaining to the audience on how to be a terrible artist and now planting a car.

This on-going artwork titled Project: Found Fossil is the newest project that has been carried out by a young artist, Zulkefli Jais. Erected as a permanent public art which is located in front of Kapallorek Art Space and Kopi Mesin Seri Iskandar, Perak. This project evokes the element of geological time which represents the concept of future history and fictional archaeology; often presenting fossilised versions of contemporary objects and architecture. The artist said “My object could be futuristic or it could be ancient. I’m interested in the idea of blending the past and the future in creating a retro futuristic atmosphere which transcends into open-ended possibilities of facts and fiction. Maybe after that I can call myself a Cavemen-Spacemen”. The artist put himself humorously as a fake “palaeontologist” (a scientist who studies the history of life on Earth through fossil recording). He examines the Proton Saga Iswara Aeroback as evidence of Malaysia’s important history as an act of preserving the object as it will be gone for upcoming generations to see. This is similar to the concept of how archaeologist documented the past evidence of life.
Hence, this is a huge collaborative project with the help from Kapallorek Art Space as an art institution, Tangsi Studio as the technical team and advisor, Kopi Mesin as the host, and CENDANA and Mycreative Ventures as the funders.
